In early March 2016 a local military soldier reported the finding of the corpse of an old female leopard outside the confines of Tandoureh National Park. Her body was immediately taken to Tehran for post-mortem necropsy. Preliminary investigations showed that the animal had suffered a long period of starvation (at least one month) and no body fat was found under the skin. The leopard’s pelt was intact and CT scans taken later showed no sign of an earlier gunshot wound.
