Conservation planning for Tandoureh with local stakeholders

Conservation

In order to share progress reports and to develop a final participatory action plan, a half-day workshop was organized in the offices of the Department of the Environment in Khorasan’s capital Mashhad, which manages Tandoureh National Park and its adjacent reserves. Attended by some 20 local and provincial experts and managers at different levels of decision-making, the Foundation briefed attendees about its past activities and preliminary findings – particularly those obtained by telemetry studies (i.e. satellite collars).

Afterward, the Foundation representatives presented a draft action plan which had been developed on the basis of preceding meetings and discussion with Tandoureh’s rangers on a wide range of objectives, including science and monitoring, law enforcement, outreach and community engagement, veterinary services, and capacity building. The attending experts provided their insights and comments on every aspect of the action plan, and the final participatory action plan was endorsed by the DoE’s managing director to be implemented over the next five years in Tandoureh as well as neighbouring areas.
