A new family of leopards in Tandoureh

Leopards

We have just learned that a new family of Persian leopards, previously unknown to the Foundation experts, has been found in Tandoureh. The family, consisting of a female and two small cubs, was filmed by camera traps several times along different trails in the park’s northern valley, an area rich in prey thanks to the rangers’ tremendous efforts. Initially thought to be the resident family in the valley – one that we had known about since last spring – it turned out to be a new family, based on a comparison of marking patterns with the existing family. In recognition of the long-standing support of our close friend, artist Soudabeh Majidi, the Foundation is honoured to name the leopard mother Soudabeh.

We are thrilled to share such wonderful news with you. Awesome footage of the family will be part of a film currently being made by our award-winning partner, the Wildlife Pictures Institute.

Currently, Future4Leopards is working closely with local communities through various outreach programs in 18 villages around Tandoureh. Equally important, we are enhancing anti-poaching programs in the area through the provision of better equipment and enhancing conservation facilities such as ranger trails and smart poaching detection systems.
